How We Fell In Love With Grenfell – A British Love Story
A classic love at first sight. Let’s start this story in Florence, Italy, January 2018 at one of those magnificent Pitti Imagine trade shows, Pitti Uomo ’94. Home of the now so-called Peacocks (aka men thinking it’s a great idea to wear your all wardrobe… at once). But this is not about them. It’s about two guys that really stood out on that day. Two gentlemen walking to the Fortezza Da Basso, obviously British. One of them wearing a jacket in a sage green (yes, yes, Sage!) colour never seen before and the other one a green cape (!!). We were like – what was that??
We then were lucky to later that day meet the two gents, Joslyn Clarke (Creative Director) and Gary Burnand (Commercial Director) in the booth of Grenfell. We also had the pleasure to meet Mo Azam (Managing Director) who took us for a Grand Tour of Grenfell’s amazing collection. A lot of brands call themselves heritage but in Grenfell’s case there’s no better adjective as the brand has been around since 1923 and most important, still carry the same ethos.
Grenfell’s speciality is high quality outerwear. The kind that will last a lifetime. Grenfell’s garments are like an instrument that never goes out of tune. Never “out of fashion” because it never was “in fashion” in the first place.
